Lake Apex

Lake Apex

On our weekend camping escape, we visited an amazing wildlife sanctuary of Lake Apex.

The park grounds were scattered with geese.

Ducks swam happily around whilst dusky moorhens played in the shallows.

Plants and reeds built natural barriers to the outside world.

Swallows dipped and dived over the still waters with amazing skill.

A moorhen stood still and watched for a snack.

Crows Nest.

Crows Nest.

This weekend past, two friends and I ventured inland to a little place called Crows Nest, QLD.

We stocked up on water and supplies along the way.

The drive was fenced with acres and acres of geometric forest.

When we got there, it was like walking on a moonscape.

Apricot sand crunched and danced around our shoes as we trekked through the rocks and bush.

Granite towered rough and worn up high over our heads.

The streams and pools flowed slowly and steadily as the sounds of lapping water chorused with the birds.

We ventured and explored over the cliffs and around the trails, balancing and leaping between rock piles and mountain sides.

As the sun grew richer, the water turned a deep steel blue.

Trails and tracks spiraled off and over and away.

The granite boulders threw a pink haze, darkened with deep black battle scars formed by the elements.

Apricots, salmon pink and steel teal blue.

Camping prep.

This weekend, my housemate Jason and my good friend Donnelle are coming on a camping adventure with me.

Donnelle is a very talented musician, and has a huge day set out for herself on Saturday, playing multiple events at a big Cancer Council / Relay for Life meet at a township inland from Brisbane.

This seemed too perfect an excuse to plan to pack some bags and have a weekend roadtrip camping adventure.

Now I’ve just got to pack.

Easier said than done.

Because I am excellent, I managed to forget my sleeping bags back home, but at least I remembered the tent.

It will be freezing. As excited as I am for that fact, I am also mindful that a terrible cold night sleep does not a happy camper make.

Tomorrow I think I will pack my bags. The last thing I want to do is underpack on film or forget a lens.
