The Life Aquatic – Pt II

The Life Aquatic – Pt II

It’s been over a week now since I’ve been back in B, and I am once again torn between the city and the trees.

To help me reminisce, I thought I’d post some more photos from my morning spent back home.

After we paddled to our rest spot, the clouds changed and the sky turned a magnificent gold.

The water rippled in the wind as we floated and watched all around us.

The bright blue morning continued to become gilded in metallic shades of gold and bronze, and it felt like it was a rising of a second sun.

The walk home to anywhere is not normally something to look forward to, but our walk home from the river passes through the hidden back streets, over run with herbs and creeping vines and the beautiful sprawling gardens secretly held tight to bursting point in the yards of the people in the village.

Look at that purple.

As we walked, the sky changed again. The clouds were swept down with the chilling wind, and the deep steel blue of a coming storm grew in darkness and depth.

By the time we finished our wander home, the sky looked like this.

Buddha Birth Day Festival

Buddha Birth Day Festival

Last night was Brisbane’s 18th annual Buddha Birth Day Festival, held in the surrounds of the Southbank Parklands.

The weather was freezing, my lips were chapped and a spark of fever was in the air.

D2X_0017

People were laughing and talking, pointing at lanterns, and exploring the food stalls that formed a bustling city street within the parklands.

I met up with some friends, and we took to the markets to experience a banquet of vegetarian delights.

We wandered around and snuck peaks in to other people’s lives.

There was an excellent Buddha balloon animal on the high tea table, you can just see it in the picture below.

Sounds flowed over the river and grasses as we explored.

After eating our share of steamed buns in the midst of the markets, we decided to picnic in wait for the firework display.

Satay skewers, bbq sticks and fritter puffs were washed down with plum and passionfruit tea.

We snacked on my newly acquired vegetarian jerky [when I found it I was ecstatic] and listened to the musical display.

Then came the bangs.

The river exploded with colours and lights; The city landscape a pinprick of starts as the backdrop to the night.

I took some shots, but then lowered arms to truly see the beauty that was unfolding.

I forgot just how magical fireworks are.

When the display was over, we caught up with my housemate and decided to eat some more.

Fun.

As the coldness pressed in and the lights turned low, we each split to our separate evening destinations – mine being a hot shower and a warm bed.

Sometimes I really love the city.

Saturday Night.

Saturday Night.

Last night was a good night.

The weather was freezing, my big coat was toasty, and there were plenty of smiles all round.

I love seeing other people shooting with Instax cameras. I don’t think people realise how different their shooting style is to everyone else.

D2X_0557

Plus, they’re great to pass around.

D2X_0558

Of course, they’ll never replace instagram.

The Valley can be beautiful and disgusting all at the same time, but last night I was able to notice more beauty.
